Here’s a quick guide on how to navigate the Soomo video recorder with a screen reader. You can use the Tab key to move forward through the elements on the page, and Shift + Tab to move backward.

Get started
To begin using the Soomo video recorder, use the Tab key until you reach the Start Activity button. Your screen reader will announce “close dialogue button group.” This is where you can enter a title for your video if you’d like.
You may be prompted to add presenter names, but you do not need to enter anything. Keep pressing Tab until you reach the Continue button. Pressing Continue will bring up the instructions for the activity. Read through the instructions, and proceed to the Continue button.
To record using the video recorder, Tab again to get to the Continue to Recorder button.
View the instructions panel
To read the instructions for the activity, you will need to open the instructions panel. Keep pressing Tab until you reach Instructions. Press Space to open the instructions panel.
Use the right and left arrows to navigate in the instructions panel. Using the Tab key will move you out of the video recorder window.
Locate the rubrics
The rubric for the activity can be accessed by pressing the Rubrics button, which is located between the Comments and Instructions buttons.
To open the rubrics panel, press Tab until you reach Rubrics, then press Space.
Use the right and left arrows to navigate in the rubrics panel. Using Tab will quickly move you to the rubric’s selection buttons.
Watch a video
Use the Tab key to navigate to the video controls. After you record a video, it will automatically play back. If you wish to pause the video, press Tab to reach the Pause button.
Leave comments
The comments panel will be open by default when you begin video playback.
To add a comment, keep pressing the Tab key until you reach Add a Comment, then press Space to start typing. When you enter your comment, it will automatically be saved with a timestamp of your current location in the video.
