How do I upload a video to the Soomo video recorder?

How to upload videos from your device, YouTube, or Zoom

With the Soomo video recorder, you can record your assignments directly in your webtext. However, you can also upload and submit videos you’ve recorded elsewhere.

Keep in mind that the maximum file size for your upload is 4GB and that you’ll need an internet upload speed of at least 0.5 Mbps. You can find more information about the technical requirements for using the Soomo video recorder in our Help Center article.

Upload from your device

To upload a video from your device for your assignment, first click Start Activity in the Soomo video recorder.

Add an optional title to your video and then click Continue.

Review the recording instructions if you’d like and then click Continue again.

In the window that appears, follow these steps:

  1. Click Upload in the top left corner.

  2. Click Choose a Video File.

Select a video file from your device and click Start to begin uploading. Note that the maximum file size you can upload is 4GB.

When your video has been uploaded, you’ll be taken back to the main view of the video recorder and your video will begin processing. This may take a moment.

You’ll know your video has been uploaded and processed successfully when the thumbnail appears.

Submit a YouTube video

To submit a video from YouTube for your assignment, first click Start Activity in the Soomo video recorder.

Review the recording instructions if you’d like, and then click Continue again.

In the window that appears, follow these steps:

  1. Click YouTube in the top left corner.

  2. Paste in the link to your YouTube video.

  3. Click Select Media.

Keep in mind that videos marked as Private on YouTube cannot be viewed in the Soomo video recorder.

When your video has been uploaded, you’ll be taken back to the main view of the video recorder and your video will begin processing. This may take a moment.

You’ll know your video has been uploaded and processed successfully when the thumbnail appears.

Upload a Zoom recording

To submit a Zoom video file for your assignment, first click Start Activity in the Soomo video recorder.

In the window that appears, follow these steps:

  1. Click Zoom in the top left.

  2. Click Upload Zoom Local Recording.

Select a video file from your device and then click Start to begin uploading. Note that the maximum file size you can upload is 4GB.

When your video has been uploaded, you’ll be taken back to the main view of the video recorder and your video will begin processing. This may take a moment.

You’ll know your video has been uploaded and processed successfully when the thumbnail appears.

Upload a Zoom cloud recording

To submit a Zoom cloud recording for your assignment, first click Start Activity in the Soomo video recorder. Note that you can only upload Zoom cloud recordings from a paid Zoom account.

Review the recording instructions if you’d like, and then click Continue again.

In the window that appears, follow these steps:

  1. Click Zoom in the top left.

  2. Click Cloud Recordings.

  3. Click Connect to Zoom.

In the new tab that opens, sign in to your Zoom account and click Allow to grant access.

Back in the Soomo video recorder, select the cloud recording you’d like to upload and click Select Media.


When your video has been uploaded, you’ll be taken back to the main view of the video recorder and your video will begin processing. This may take a moment.

You’ll know your video has been uploaded and processed successfully when the thumbnail appears.
