Depending on the webtext, writing templates may include a citation tool that helps you properly cite sources in your assignment. The tool adds in-text citations to your templates and automatically generates a reference page in your final document.
If you want to include sources that aren’t listed in the citation tool, you can manually add the citations and references for those sources to your document after you download it. Make sure to review the assignment requirements for guidance on adding your own sources and check with your instructor if needed.
Select the location
First, click the place in the template where you’d like to add your citation (typically at the end of a sentence before the period.) Then click the Add Citation button in the template’s formatting bar.
Create the citation
1. In the box that appears, select your source from the drop-down menu. Remember that if your source isn’t listed, you’ll need to manually add the in-text citations and reference for that source in the downloaded file later.
2. Choose the citation format you’d like to use, as well as a page number if prompted.
3. Once you’ve completed all of the required fields, click the Create Citation button to insert the citation into the text.
4. The citation will appear in the writing template with a gray background.
5. Repeat this process to add additional citations as needed.
If you need to make changes to a citation, click on it and follow the prompts again. When you’re done, click Update Citation to save your changes.
Review your references
When you’re finished with the template, click the Add button to add it to your assignment.
Once all templates are complete, you’ll be able to download your assignment.
Any citations you’ve added with the tool will automatically appear on the reference page in the file you download. If you used sources that weren’t listed in the citation tool, you’ll need to add their in-text citations to the body of your assignment and include them on this reference page.
