Using a supported browser for the best webtext experience

A browser is the app or program you use to view and interact with websites, including your webtext. Common browsers include Safari, Chrome, and Firefox.

If you get a message in your webtext about an unsupported browser, it means your current browser version can’t fully support everything your webtext needs. That can lead to pages loading slowly, buttons not responding, display issues, or security risks.

Keeping your browser up-to-date helps avoid these issues and ensures all webtext features work as expected. Below, you’ll find the browsers we support as well as steps for updating them on desktop and mobile.

Supported browsers

Your webtext works best with the latest versions of the following browsers. Click the links below to download them directly from the provider:

Updating your web browser

Most web browsers update automatically, but if you’d like, you can also check for updates manually by using the steps below.

- Google Chrome

Click the Menu ⁝ button in the upper-right corner of your browser window, hover over the Help option, and then select About Google Chrome.

If an update is available, Chrome will begin updating automatically. When the update is ready, click Relaunch to finish updating.

- Mozilla Firefox

Click the Menu ☰ button in the upper-right corner of your browser window and then select Settings.

Scroll to find the Firefox Updates section. If an update is available, Firefox will either install it automatically or prompt you to install it. Follow the on-screen steps, and restart Firefox if prompted.

- Microsoft Edge

Click the Settings and More ⋯ button in the upper-right corner of your browser window, hover over the Help and Feedback option, then select About Microsoft Edge.

- Apple Safari

Safari updates come with macOS updates, so you can make sure your browser is current by updating your system. Click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of your screen and select System Settings.

An arrow is pointing to the Apple Menu icon in the Mac menu bar. The menu is open and the System Settings option is highlighted.

In the window that appears, click General in the left sidebar, then click Software Update.

If there’s an Update button, click it to begin the update process.

Updating your mobile browser

If you access your webtext on a phone or tablet, browser updates work a little differently. Mobile browsers are updated through your device’s app store, rather than through the browser itself.

- On iPhone or iPad

Open the App Store, tap your profile icon in the upper-right corner, then scroll to check for available updates. Tap Update next to an app to install the update.

- On Android

In the Google Play store, search for the browser you’re using. If an Update button appears, tap it to install the update.

Computers provided by your school or workplace

If you’re using a computer managed by your school or workplace, you might find that you can’t install updates yourself. Some update options may be grayed out, or an update may not complete.

Start by checking whether another supported browser is already installed on your device. Switching to a different browser may let you continue using your webtext without needing to update or install anything new.

If there isn’t another browser available, reach out to your school or workplace’s IT department and ask them to install or update a supported browser for you.
