Some of our webtexts contain writing templates. These are designed to guide you through the process of completing your writing assignment.

Complete templates in order

You must complete the templates in order. If you do not complete them in order, you will see a message sending you back to the incomplete template. Remember that “incomplete” could mean that you’ve filled out the template, but you still need to click the Add button.

You may have to click several links until you are taken back to the incomplete template.

Add content to your document

After you respond to each prompt, click Save. When you’re done, click the Add button. This will add the content to your document.

You can change your responses after you have clicked Add by clicking the Edit button.

The template is not considered complete until you click Add. If you haven’t done that yet, you will be prevented from completing future templates.

The Add button will appear in a lighter color and will not be clickable until the template is finished.

Download your document

When downloading a document, if you cannot see the button, you need to click the Add button first. Then your download button will become visible.

Your computer will likely place the file automatically in your downloads folder.

Add citations

Please note that only some webtexts contain this feature.

Click on the part of the sentence where you want the in-text citation to appear. Then click the Add Citation button.

Choose the source you wish to cite, and then keep selecting options until all of the dropdown menus have been completed.

Once you’ve chosen an option for each category, the Add Citation button will become clickable.

You’ll then see your citation in the text. You can add as many citations as you need!

If you’d like to make a change, click on the citation and the box with the dropdown menus will reappear, allowing you to change what you’ve chosen from the menu options.

Click the X to delete the citation.

Edit with rich text (bold and italic)

Please note that only some webtexts contain this feature.

If you see a small B or I at the top of the text box, you can format your text if you need to type your citations directly into the template. Select the text you wish to italicize or bold, and then click the button.

Find your templates

If you scroll down to the bottom of the Table of Contents, you'll see the Index of Writing Templates. There you will see a list of every template in your webtext, and the page number where it is located.
